Creating a Sacred Space for your Ceremony

Location

I’m sure this is obvious, but location is such a cool way to express who you are as individuals. The mountains have always been sacred to us. Every mountain we’ve climbed together has been a journey of growth and majesty. Our first out of town trip together was to go climb mountains in Colorado. We did FOUR 14ers in one 8 mile loop. A year later, Rich proposed to me on the top of Mt. Handies. We got married in the mountains in Canada. Mountains are just significant to us. Maybe the location alone is what makes the ceremony special. But there are other little details and fun things to add in to make it more special and more memorable to you :)

…As mentioned below.

The Altar

The altar can be a pretty special place in and of itself and will typically be picked out with your wedding planner. BUT if you are doing a true Elopement, I always recommend a Marriage Rug. It can be small, but it needs to be something that you love. Something that represents YOU and the sacred vows you will be saying to each other. It’s nice to have it afterwards knowing that you may never go back to the place you got married, but you will always have the rug on which you stood.

Unity Ceremonies

A Unity ceremony is the act of symbolizing the two of you becoming one.

The most common Unity Ceremonies are Sand Ceremonies or Candle Ceremonies, but I would rather do something more unique that represents both of you. There are many ways to symbolize how you both are two amazing individuals coming together as ONE. This is also a good way to involve kids or other family members that you want to feel included and special. I’ve seen people mix drinks at the end of the isle, build Cairns, and even do a Paint Pouring where the kids and parents were represented by the color of their choice (SUPER CUTE I KNOW). There are many many options, but just find the one that suits you best! Go to Pinterest or google “unity ceremonies” and see if any speak to you. Unity Ceremonies are one way that makes the ceremony special and one to remember with a smile :)
