Eloping in the Superstition Mountains
The Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction, Arizona is one of our favorite locations to plan an all-inclusive elopement. The Superstition Mountains seem to have magic inside them. With a vintage and nostalgic feeling, the desert here has beautiful cacti and is just far enough away from the crowd. We rarely run into other people on the trails out here while doing intimate weddings.
Gordon + Elisabeth decided they wanted an intimate elopement that only includes their kids and parents. Like all intimate weddings, there are a few things that really make a ceremony unique and personal.
Writing Personal Vows
Hiring an Officiant who Creates a Personal and Customized Script
Choosing a Unique Unity Ceremony
Finding a Beautiful Location
Choosing Music that Sings of YOUR love
finding the right photographer
Trusting the vendors that you chose to create magic
Making these 7 things a top priority will set your ceremony a part and create the beautiful, intimate, sacred moments that a wedding ceremony should offer.
We started the ceremony in the middle of the desert as Elisabeth walked out to “Home” by Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros. It was a fun way to begin the ceremony as their two kids sprinkled the desert with beautiful flower petals. They had the most joy-filled family, and their kids were so excited to be a part of it!!
Gordon and Elisabeth wanted to do a handfasting ceremony and include special things to say to each of their loved ones. We’ve done lots of handfasting ceremonies, and this is a great way to involve kids and parents. Elisabeth had the idea of choosing a different color to represent each family member. She called each one up to place their ribbon and tie their knots. As each person placed their ribbon, Elisabeth told them why she chose the color she did and the value, magic, and love they add to the family. She spoke Identity into each person. And it was beautiful to watch. The knot ended up being a jumbled mess of color and beauty. And I couldn’t have planned anything better. It was perfect. A perfect representation of their family because love is messy and wild and wonderful.
As Gordon and Elisabeth began reciting their own vows, the whole family was feeling the love and emotion that comes with speaking from the heart. It was such a beautiful moment, and I’m grateful we were able to capture it.
We also created a ring ceremony where we saged their rings. It’s a beautiful cleansing ceremony to honor every moment that has brought the couple together. It’s a way of honoring the past while creating space and intention for the future.
We ended the ceremony and Shelby played their “first dance” song “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis. We love creating intentional times for the couple to just soak up the moment. I got to capture some shots of their first dance!
Shelby then got to take them away for a few bride + groom photos and family photos!
